Designing for designers proves a challenge, and architects are no exception – with a keen design eye, impeccable understanding of space and proportion, and a meticulous attention to detail – and even more so, when we’re addressing an awards design. When approaching Architeam’s collateral, it was imperative to translate these qualities to provide design outcomes that reflect and identify with the target audience.
Concepts for the Awards Design
When approaching Architeam’s Awards collateral for 2013, we cast the net wide, exploring the concepts of blueprints, grid lines and architectural symbols. While these served as beautiful graphic elements in their own right, it was important for the collateral to really communicate the exceptional calibre of the architectural projects entered into the Awards.
The design strategy formed around allowing the projects themselves to be the hero and take centre stage, with the design providing a solid foundation for the rich photography to speak. Incorporating Architeam’s corporate colour yellow in pops of colour scattered throughout the entry form, signage, certificates and brochure grabbed attention and tied the Architeam brand through the Awards Design collateral.
The brochure was the hero piece of the Awards collateral, displaying each of the winners and entrants. Structured grids underlying the layout provided a nod to strong architectural lines and sleek, sans-serif typefaces combined with tones of grey provided a constrained, ultra-polished statement piece.
The same qualities for the Awards Design have carried through other Architeam collateral such as application forms and their sponsorship pack. When approaching potential sponsors it was important to communicate the amazing quality of Architeam’s members and the rich experience that the Awards offers to entrants, sponsors and attendees alike. Balancing rich photography and bold design elements with clear, easily digestible information was important in developing a visually rich outcome which was very easy to understand and appreciate quickly, to encourage potential sponsors to take the next step and engage with Architeam.
