A little bit of awesome for you today!
Today I attended a Business Chicks event (highly recommended if you want to take your learning to another level) and heard Mark Bouris speak and as usual, I walked out thinking “damn I need to write about this!”.
The main thing I wanted to talk about was what he calls a “disruptor”.
A disruptor is a person who challenges convention and what we’re all so familiar with. Steve Jobs. Richard Branson. Lady Gaga. All disruptors in some sort of way – even if it’s just a facial expression.
The disruptor is that thread which just won’t follow the others.
It has to create its own path or its own shade of vibrancy.
It shines because it chose to be unlike the others.
And the interesting thing Mark said, was that once that difference is recognised and given kudos to, a disruptor goes on to continue being different, to continue challenging the status quo and questioning the norm.
I love this. No questions why.
Show me one other design agency with a voice that sounds like a real person?
Show me another brand which lets you hear about the stories of the founders and doesn’t glorify the story?
Find me another leader of a networking team who writes about her latest trials in their e-newsletters?
Find me another music artist who has 24 hours of happy?
Find me another politicians wife who was ready to boogie?
Some people use sex. Some people use humour. Some people use a TED Talk.
But they’re all breaking the norms – either in a small way, or a huge way.
Get it on your disruptor on.
