We recently held a social media trends night which focused on savvy Australian business examples that are doing well in the social media environment and offered attendees the chance to ask questions and get advice from social media strategy geek, Kat Cazanis from Nitty Gritty Digital. Held at Abbotsford Convent (thanks to Kat who knows lovely people + made things happen!) for a maximum of 20 people, the U-shaped setting made for the ideal networking opportunity as well.
All of the attendees gave me positive feedback as well as a few pointers for the next evening. Kat did the speaking + Kish+Co designed all the collateral around the event – a great way to mix up clients and give them a teaser into the industry. I’ve learnt so much from listening to her speak, here are a few bits and pieces from my mental notes:
- Integrating social media on various platforms to make it more powerful. Seems obvious, but people aren’t going it.
- Pinterest is on the rise and there was a great example of a non-fashion-y brand using it to get buyers in
- I was of the general notion that all businesses should have just about everything (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn) – but I agree with Kat having heard her state: “be everywhere” will quickly be replaced with “be where it matters to our business.”
I think the best feedback for me from the night was a company designer telling me, he’d had a brilliant idea to help him market their product via social media. Sparking interest which then leads to an idea, is really what it’s all about. And hearing him so excited + inspired, was a win/win for me. We munched on delicious food sponsored by Kat’s lovely friend, Soph at Romulus Cafe. Got snapped by my dear friend and photographer, Trudy Schuringa (see pictures below). Wrapped up with a bit of a Halloween treat by Blossom Baking.
Thank you all who came on the night + looking forward to the next one.
